First Nigerian GLOBALG.A.P Farm Assurers Training Holds in Abeokuta

ABUJA 05 October 2018 – In May 2018, Nigeria’s first GLOBALG.A.P National Technical Working Group was established with support from the National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria (NQIP), funded by the European Union and implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). As a follow-up action, UNIDO-NQIP supported the organisation of a GLOBALG.A.P Approved Farm Assurers Training from 25 to 27 September, 2018, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The training aimed at improving the capacity and availability of knowledge capital of local approved consultants, implementers, auditors and trainers. The three-day training schedule was facilitated by an international recognised GLOBALG.A.P expert. The workshop, which was focused on Crops, included presentations and case studies on GLOBALG.A.P General Regulations, Control Points and Compliance Criteria. After an onsite visit to a case study farm, participants also took a written examination.

GLOBALG.A.P, which stands for Global Good Agricultural Practices, is the world's leading voluntary farm assurance program. In March 2018, a consultative meeting with agribusiness stakeholders was facilitated by UNIDO-NQIP as a first step to the establishment of the working group and 3-day training sessions were organised in Lagos and Abuja.
