UNIDO Supports Pilot Trial of Integrated Export Control Plan on Dried Beans

ABUJA 13 July 2018

UNIDO has supported the pilot trial of Nigeria’s Integrated Export Control Plan on Dried Beans. The pilot trial took place from 10 July to 13 July, 2018, in Lagos, and was organised within the context of the National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria (NQIP), funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO.

The pilot trial consisted of a series of activities to review the processes of the recently validated Integrated Export Control Plan. The Integrated Export Plan was developed by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Zero Rejects with technical support from UNIDO to assist the fulfilment of the EU conditions necessary for lifting the ban on Nigeria’s dried beans and to assist the establishment of a system of trust for Nigeria’s agricultural commodities for export and local consumption.

Activities also included training on export process and documentary requirements; anti-fraud and counterfeit measures; and risk management, and carried out trial inspections of dried beans at a designated warehouse. The trainings culminated in the review of the Integrated Export Control Plan. The review included identification of challenges and required modifications to the practical control procedures, as well as the reformulation of the Plan.

Participants were pooled from the public and organised private sectors under the coordination of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
