UNIDO Trains SON on International Inspection Body Competence Standard

ABUJA 04 July 2018 –

Twenty-eight staff members from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have received training on the practical implementation of ISO/IEC 17020:2012. The training held in Lagos from 20 to 22 June, 2018 and was organized within the context of the European Union funded National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria, implemented by UNIDO.

ISO/IEC 17020 is the standard that specifies requirements for the competence of bodies performing inspection and for the impartiality and consistency of their inspection activities.

During the three-day exercise participants learned about the principles of inspection, such as integrity, impartiality and confidentiality, management systems and competence and infrastructure requirements. At the end of the training, participants had to pass a written examination to receive IAS certificates.

The course was facilitated by an international recognised Lead Evaluator from the International Accreditation Service, a non-profit corporation based in the USA, providing accreditation services since 1975.
