Ebonyi State government, Organized Private Sector Commit to Safer Rice Production

ABAKILIKI 31 January 2018  - The Ebonyi State Government has committed to improved standards and practices in the state’s rice industry. This commitment was made by the state governor, represented by the Secretary for the State Government (SSG) Mr Bernard Odoh during the Food Safety Awareness Building Campaign that held from 30 January to 31 January, 2018, in the state capital, Abakiliki.


The Food Safety Campaign was conceived within the framework of the European Union funded National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria (NQIP), implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). 


During the campaign, UNIDO and the National Food Safety Management Committee held consultative meetings with high level government officials and advocacy sessions with the Organised Private Sector in the state that included site visits to the Rice Millers’ Association, the Management of Ebonyi Broadcasting Service and Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI). Stakeholder interaction included discussions on improved food safety practices and identification of areas that require capacity building.
